Medically, it’s known as Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy — a sudden weakening of the heart muscle triggered by intense emotional or physical stress. It often mimics a heart attack and disproportionately affects women (especially postmenopausal).

Emotionally, it’s the body’s somatic response to betrayal, abandonment, prolonged grief, or existential loss — a full-body signal that something deep in the relational or identity field has collapsed.
